This Chick wants to know...What's New?

Isn't she cute? I just had to add a little Spring to my post... Well, here's whats new...
A local antiques dealer and friend is closing up shop and moving back down state, she let Dee and me have first run at her stuff and boy, was it ever fun.  The large wooden bowl and butter paddle are well over a hundred years old, the bowl was probably made by the husband...there are no manufacturers markings to be found. I just love these old bowls, it looks shiny because I oiled it and the paddle.
The little bowl and chopper are equally as old, they were used to chop fresh herbs and things like green onions or chives. Tim is going to sharpen the chopper for me, I'm looking forward to using them.

Some wonderful old crocks to add to my collection, I may have to sell some of my other butter crocks to make room for these. Not sure if I want to sell these.
I also picked up some nice granite ware, most are grey and one is white with black trim, all are in good condition. Love the angel food cake pan... that, for sure,is a keeper.
Some great old parade flags...one with only 48 stars the rest have 50 stars but are made of cotton and have a great feel to them.

Well, that's all for this week...

So from my porch to yours...

Have a blessed week...

Today's verse: Proverbs 25:11  A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.

Let your words be gentle and kind.

Down in the dumps...not really

I'm feeling like I'm in the dump, you know, as in dumpster diving. But without the dumpster, I went diving into my stash of  furniture and furniture pieces to see what I could re -purpose into something useful. This is what I came up with...

I love old shoes, I have my Grandmothers  last pair of shoes and I have a pair of both my children's  baby shoes, I also have several pairs of shoes that I have no idea  to whom they belonged, but they are so sweet. This little shoe came with a pair of baby shoes I bought on line I have no idea what happened to its mate. I think that this would make a sweet night light in a baby's room

My next project involved two doors from an entertainment center cabinet, they were already painted green all I had to do was add the chalk board paint and stencil on one and distress the other and  I've got two new pieces to take to the shop.

Then I found a bundle of Christmas lights and my gazing ball in a box in the garage and I stuffed the lights inside the ball  and now I have a beautiful night light to put on the porch, when the weather warms up a bit.
I worked on a few Spring decorations but somehow managed to misplace the pictures, wonder where they go. So to take their place...my final piece of  red painted furniture...really.

Well, that's all for this week...

So, from my porch to yours...

Have a blessed week.

This weeks verse:

Proverbs 18:9 He also that is slothful in his work, is brother to him that is a great waster.

I'm Just Saying...

If this snow doesn't let up there is no telling what will get painted next...and I cannot be held responsible.

This is a picture of what the outside looks like, add to this 30 below zero...Yikes!!!

I think  now you can understand why everything that is inside the house is fair game.

I thought I liked this trunk just the way it is.....Rustic, right.

And here it is after a coat or two of chalk paint and dark  wax...it looks like it has always been this color.

And nothing is sacred I even went after the curtains in the kitchen/dining room.

I'm really liking these...I just may have to make some for the shop...

Hum! what can I paint now, Tim and Suzie are getting very nervous , then there is the neighbors dog, no better not.

Well, that's all for now...

So from my porch to yours...

Have a blessed week..

Today's verse:    Proverbs 23: 7a   For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he...

Loving Red ... part 2

I just finished painting a piece for a friend, this dresser was in sad condition. My before pictures are really after a lot of repair had been done but I didn't have any pictures of it in that state. Well, here are my before pic.

The sides of this piece were badly damaged and it was missing a lot of its handles

I debated  with myself as to what color to paint it, I researched a lot of painted dressers so as to get an idea of what color would look best. Mustard, or yellow ocher, was a close contender but the owner of the dresser felt the same as I did, Red ...paint it red...so here re the pictures of the finished product.

                                                               First coat of paint...

Second coat of paint and the piece was distressed and aged a bit.

Finished piece all ready to go to its new home. I managed to find a few handles that were close to the ones that were original to this piece ...
however, I was short two so I had some grosgrain ribbon and I called it into duty for the top drawer, it can easily be removed when they find handles they like.

Well that's all for this time,so

THOUGHTS OF SPRING...

If in the Spring a young mans thoughts turn to thoughts of love then I must say that in the throngs of winter this old gals thoughts turn to thoughts of cozy...cozy feather filled comforters, cozy pots of homemade chicken soup, and cozy corners...well, here are a few.

The above picture is where I did my Bible study in the winter...then I brought my Hoosier cabinet home from the shop and now that is my cozy desk corner...still cozy to me.

So I was at my friends house and noticed some pretty cozy corners there, so I snapped a few, with her permission, of course. This is Dee's home, it is warm, inviting, comfortable and exudes a feeling of love, truly a place that is packed with cozy.

Cozy kitchen corner...

                Large cozy...

corners under the open stair way, love this area...

And I believe this is her Bible study area.....

She even has cozy corners on top of the fridge, maybe cold inside there but definitely not cold on top.

I guess I don't have to tell you where this little corner is, that is an old wooden water closet, nyou gotta love that.

This isn't really a corner but it is so cozy I had to include it, Now I must go and have a cup of coffee, my ultimate cozy.

That's all for now...

So from my porch to yours...

Have a Blessed week.

This weeks verse:  Romans 1:16   For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

Just Red...

I never realized just how much red we had in our home until I started this blog. I guess I have a real fondness for red...sorry purple...you know "when I am old I will wear purple" I guess I will wear red. OK! Now for some pictures.

Well I just have to say a few words about this picture,,,I just got this red scale pan and the sugar nippers that are on it, they are not red but I love them and they are on display ,with the sugar cones that I make, in my kitchen.
We still have to add the little pegs to the crossbar on this dresser, that will be done tonight, I'll post a picture of the finished product at a later date.
This book isn't red, and I haven't even "read" it but I thought it was cute so, there it is.

Red shutters and my Dad's flag.
Tim's old red checked hunting jacket and shirt, wonder if they still fit, bet they do.

                                                              Just more red.

                                                       Old church hymnals.

Old red pitcher pump that Tim brought home one day...I'm not the only one that loves vintage.

                                                              Another red clock....
                                              and two old red sifters....

                                                    I LOVE RED!!!

Well, that's all for this time,so

From my porch to yours...

Have a blessed day...
