Trash to Treasure...

By no means do I think that this piece is going to be around for 100 years, but it won't be spending 100 years decaying in some junk yard. I love to take pieces that most people wouldn't look twice at and convert them into pseudo antiques. I know I'm not alone in feeling like this, there are so many more out there than I ever thought. I have recently found a group that feel like I do, and I was surprised to see how young many of them were. They were born in the era of disposable everything, yet they have the soul of yesteryear. I'm not sure how this happens but someone must have influenced them along the way. Maybe a mom, aunt, or friend, and I am so excited to see this. Well, enough chatter, now some before and after pictures and a few redo's
We found this little dresser at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore Store, Tim had to do a lot of reconstructive surgery to get it in shape for me to apply the finishes that make it look like it has been around for quite a while.
Tim built the top and attached it to the base, he also had to tear off the sides and do some rebuilding  to the under structure and then he applied tongue and groove panel strips to the sides.

                                                            ALMOST FINISHED...

                                                                FINALLY DONE....

Soon to be taken to the shop and hopefully sold quickly because I have a stack of furniture that needs some TLC.

Just a little Spring redo for the house, because it's still too cold to do much in the garden...

Well, that's all for this time...

So from my porch to yours...

Have a blessed week.

Spring has sprung....

At least for today...tomorrow there may be snow...however that huge pile of snow in our front garden is gone and under all that snow I found this...embedded in ice, no less.
I  am always  amazed when Spring breaks through Winter and the ground softens and all the plants that were looking dead start to bud. God is so good.

Well, the cabinet and the blue table it sits on are a new addition to our home, the cabinet is a wonderful old primitive piece that has glass doors on the front and two panel doors on the back, very interesting. It has an adjustable shelf mechanism that I have never seen before. It is all made out of wood, no metal parts at all. I love it. At first I thought I would be selling this but maybe not, it looks so at home here. What can I say.
It didn't take long to fill, the bottom is going to hold quilts but I have to wait for the lemon oil to be absorbed.

Finally, the lemon oil is dry and it is safe to put the quilts in place. I'm thinking I may have to leave the doors open, there is a reflection from the windows and makes viewing the contents difficult.

And there it is in its final glory. The love seat in front is my next project, I'm going to paint the fabric a pale gray and the legs are going to be painted black. I've seen a few articles about using chalk paint to paint fabric so I going to give it a try. If you never see this sofa again you will know it didn't work, however, if it works, I will do a blog about each step and let you know how difficult it was.

Well, that's all for this week...

So, from my porch to yous...

Have a blessed Easter week...

Shutter to think of it...

Yep! This post is about shutters...among other things, I had a stack of them in the garage, and one of my goals is to reduce the size  of the pile of "stuff" that is waiting to be fixed or re- purposed . So I started with the shutters...
Here they are in their unfinished state...pretty ugly, right?
I know, more red, but look how pretty these shutters are now, but wait, I'm not finished...

My first plan was to have Tim hinge them together, but the paint and glaze was too wet for him to do that, soooooo I started thinking, dangerous, I know, but just look at what I came up with.
What a great way to display vintage plates or favorite flowers.

I then painted these two gray and hung some picture frames on one and a basket with a birds nest on the other...both would make a statement in any room or hallway. I'm really having fun with these, I think a whole wall of shutters would be a great way to add texture, color and art to a wall.

This great old coffee grinder is going to the shop to be sold, I've enjoyed having it for quite a few years, it came from a store in Clare, Michigan, it was the second grinder they had and the first electric one to be used there. It is dated to 1904, sorta sad to see it go, but the one pictured below goes better with the Primitive style I'm going for.
And, last but not least this painted suitcase is up for sale, great for overnight visits to Grandma's, don't you think?

Well, that's all for now...

So, from my porch to yours...

Have a blessed week.
