I thought I would share a few of the "stitches" I have on the wall of my hall leading to the bed and bath rooms. This is a pretty short wall so what started out as a small arrangement soon turned into a collage and now covers the whole wall.
This is one of the early pieces I stitched then aged it to look like it had been done a long time ago. It started out as an experiment but I soon found out that I liked the look of the aged pieces, they seemed to fit with my "decorating style" much better.
Most of my stitched pieces are of the alphabet, some are favorite hymns and quotes. However, a few are of special moments in my life. The outline of two hands over the mittens are of my daughter and me when she was 3 or 4 years old, and I was younger than I am today. The mittens were a gift to her from my mom so they have special meaning to both of us.
Just a few more stitched pieces.
These are a few of the pieces that have overflowed into the front hall, I can't seem to keep them under controll, as if I try.
This piece is one I found in an atiques store in Travers City, it is hand stitched and worth every penny, I love the thought it imparts.
O.K., I guess I had better show a few of the time pieces I collect, sence the name of this post is "Stitches & Time". Most of these came from places I visited and wanted to have something to rember the trip.
This is the clock that is at the foot of our clawfoot tub. I have clocks all over the house but can't seem to keep track of a watch, it's a good thing that cell phones have the time .
It is "time" close this post, so.....

old doors & windows
This leaded glass window was given to us by a friend of my husband, he gave us two and I sold one, this one was installed in my kitchen and looked into my craft room. We did some remodeling and added a bathroom in my craft room and had to remove the window, for obvious reasons. It now sets on the ledge of a window in our guest room.
This window came from the carriage house of the Hanson House Bed and Breakfast in Grayling, Michigan. It now resides in my living room. I love the old, flaky, green paint. I have some old shutters flanking my front windows and they are the same shade of green. This is one of those happy accidents because they came from different parts of the state but probably from the same era. |
Well that's all for this week...So
From my porch to yours
Have a blessed week

Front Porch Views in Winter
The birdhouses are unoccupied so I just cluster them on the porch, it looks like I need to put seed in the feeders..can't have our feathered friends going hungry.
The little birdhouse on top was made by my Dad some 30 years ago so needless to say it is one of my favorites.
More views from my porch!!
This house really never has been occupied hence the sign. I'll let you know if it works.
Now this house is home to our resident Chickadee..they come back every spring and that is my signal to start putting out nest material, don't want them to have to work too hard feathering their nest.
My front door in winter...love the greens. The moss in the bottom of this feeder was collected from my side yard it's called Reindeer moss and grows in clumps it is so beautiful winter or summer.
So from my porch to yours,
Winter Blessings

All good shopping trips start with cash, keys, and a destination....
I'm on my way, waving goodbye to hubby.
O.K. , had a successful shopping trip today, went to Morning Glory Merc. and Aunt Minnie's Antiques, The item in front is a drying rack. My future posts will show how and where I used it.

I'm not sure how often I'm going to be posting so for the time being I thought I would share with you the reason behind the title of my Blog. You see, my mothers name was Hattie, and during the later years of her life she could be found sitting on her front porch, at least during those months when the weather permitted. Dad had enclosed the porch to extend those days of porch setting, and Mom happily took advantage of them. I don't know if porch setting is genetic or not, but I too spend many happy hours on our front porch.
Winter is not my favorite time of the year, however I have determined to try and find some redeeming qualities, first on that list would be the beauty of the freshly fallen snow, second, and much more fun, antiquing is much more successful because there are fewer people to compete with.
I went on an outing just the other day and have a few finds to share with you. Hope you enjoy.
From my porch to yours,
Have a Blessed Day

First project of 2012
This is a deacons bench that I have had for 25 years or so. Yesterday I took a paintbrush to it.Add caption |
This is the first coat of paint after drying overnight.
This is what it looked like after sanding to add some age and one coat of Old English.
This is the view of the other side...I'm liking this look a lot. More on the primitive side.
New Year-New Blogger
I guess I should start off by saying, I'm new at this so any advise you may have for me will be greatly appreciated. I have always loved antiques but could not afford the ones found in antique stores so I spent many hours going to resale shops, Goodwill Stores, and the Salvation Army stores. I later discovered flea markets and I thought I had died and gone to Heaven, all these cool old things in one place just waiting for me to discover them. I never really knew what was supposedly the hot or in things to collect so I just bought what I loved and could afford.
The following pictures are of a deacons bench that I have had for 25 years or so. It was in a barn and frozen into the ground when we rescued it. My husband had to do some cosmetic work on it but I have loved it all these years and still do.
