Just a little more chaos...

Just a few close ups ...I realized that my earlier pictures made it difficult to see some of the smaller items...and there are quite a few.

I love these old wooden flags, they look good inside or out.

Uncle Sam sits in this screened window in the summer and a snowman sits there in winter. This is a three piece item. so to speak.

Being a basket maker I just had to include a few of these.

These shutter shelves are sooooo cute.....

...they can be hung on the wall of sit on a table.
And these "altered bottles" are just for fun..and it was fun making them...

Wish me luck with my sale....

Thanks for stopping by.

Out of Chaos Comes...More Chaos!

Well, with just one week left till our Antique and Folk Art Show and I just saw the extended weather forecast and the day is supposed to be beautiful. I keep thinking I'm going to go to all this trouble and nobody is going to show up, what if they don't like my stuff and did I price it too high or did I price it to low ?YIKES!!!!  I do that every time.

This is a sample of some of my brand of "chaos". This particular mess is in my craft/work room,
.
and this mess is all around the house.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            The front hall is piled high with assorted items that have already been priced. Some of the larger pieces of furniture are storing some of the smaller pieces
This little beauty, in the picture  below, is the one found on the side of the road with the "FREE" sign on it. Would you believe that last Sunday on my way to Church, there was another dresser with "FREE" on it.  Thank goodness I had my cell phone with me...one call to Tim and we were in business again...but that is another story.

Here is the pie safe that he made...I may have to start making pies. Not really.

I've been putting signs around town and will put ad in paper next Tuesday..the  best is yet to come, I really do enjoy the sale day. I just pray that the weather is a good as the weather man said, at any rate I'm committed now so if I have to I will have the sale in the house. Not so much fun.

Well, that's all for this week...so

Everything Old is Old!!!

You see I had this old chair and I wasn't really happy with it, the cushion cover had some stains that I didn't care for so I tried to wash the cover...it shrank so badly that it wouldn't fit back on the cushion. Happy accident? Maybe. Anyway, here is a picture of the chair, front and back. To be honest, the proportions look different in the picture than they do in person. Hmm, I think it's that way for me too.
Kind of yucky, if I do say so myself.  I was looking at Pinterest and came across this Blog where the gal reupholstered a chair using old lace and doilies...I didn't have any lace but did have a plethora of old doilies. I tea dyed them to give them a sort of uniform color and got a couple of tubes of fabric glue and I was off.
This is one piece that went all the way around the chair...wow!!! I was lucky there, saved a lot of time.
Close up of the side , under the arm, I'm liking this so far.
I got the upper back and arms covered and I ran out of glue. It took more than I expected, always does.
While I was waiting to go to the store for more glue I "auditioned" different pieces of doilies that I had on hand. I would pin them in place and check out how they fit.
OK!!!! Got more glue and again I'm on my way...this is fun and sort of easy, sore back though, from bending over the chair for so long.
This is the inside arm and back and I must say that the color looks more yellow then it really is.. it is the color of tea, really.
The back I had to sew on with needle and thread, yuk, that was hard. Also, in real life, you can't see the under fabric like you can in the picture...must be the flash that does that.
This is the "finished" chair..sort of, I still have to make a cushion and I'm going to use an old bedspread that I tea dyed  and I'm going to make a few pillow covers from the bedspread as well, those I will sew up by machine.

Well, this project was fun and I really do like the chair, what do you think? Let me know.  Now I've got to get back to painting, staining, sanding some of the items for our sale.. things are shaping up pretty well for that. I just hope it doesn't rain, I don't want to have to have it in the house.

That's all for this week...so

Found Treasures

This weeks blog just seemed to fall in my lap. I was planning on doing one on pewter but this little dresser was crying out to be "fixed up" so here we go. My neighbor, Mary, was on her way to walk the dog when she spotted this little dresser setting on the side of the road with a huge "FREE" sign on it. She threw it in her trunk and dropped it off at my house and said, "Can you fix this up for your sale?

Honestly, this dresser was a real mess when it arrived here, each drawer had something written on it in that black felt marker stuff, you know, the kind that is permanent, sort of.
The sides and drawers were real wood but the back was that crappy stuff that doesn't even feel or look like wood. So off that came and in its place...real wood.    Side note:  My computer has taken over and won't let me print where I want to so I'm  going to try and do it its' way.
I drew one of my sketches and Tim did his magic...He really doesn't like  me to brag on him, but I'm sorry Tim, true greatness is hard to ignore. I mean, look at this, it's so cute.
I mixed light green paint with a pewter color and this is the outcome.  Of course I aged it a little.
Here's the side view and the next picture is the finished product. I have to say "I love this".
It has the look of an old wash stand, I think. OOPS! I took this picture before we put the drawer knobs on. They are green glass, just like the old dressers would have had. This is going in my sale but to be honest, I sort of hope it doesn't sell. I mean , Who can't use a few more drawers?

Well, that's all for this week...

So, from my porch to yours...

Have a Blessed Week.

Necessary Things of Life

There have been a lot of names given to this room over the years. Just to name a few,  Bathroom, Restroom, Water Closet or W.C. for short and before it was moved into the house it was referred to as the Out House. Well this room has come a long way baby, some are equipped like a spa with all the amenities.  Well all that is fine but I'm afraid that would not quite fit with the overall "style" of our home. When we were building it I knew that I wanted the old cast iron bathtub and my wonderful husband went along with the idea. We resurfaced the inside and painted the outside and she has served us well for 25 years or so.

So now begins the story of the "Necessary Room" in our house. I guess what we are currently trying to do is leave the country style and go to the more primitive style. I love the old painted pieces and the cupboards made out of leftover pieces of wainscoting . That "Do and make do" attitude that our forefathers had. I believe that there are a lot of people out there that feel like I do...born 100 years too late. I remember going to my aunts house and she had an outhouse and it was wall papered and she had a few pictures hanging She certainly was ahead of her time. I believe that she had a great influence on how I thought about the spaces we occupy.
I'm taking you through the door and around the room  going from left to right. I have to tell you that our Bathroom is very long so I am able to have quite a few pieces of furniture in there
No, this is not a bottle of wine, it is a wine bottle though and I painted it and now it holds my mouthwash and sits on a silver tray. Why not add a little glam?
This is a collection of blue medicine bottles and the little green bowl holds vintage perfume bottles.  I've had little girls who didn't want to leave this room...they want to know about everything in there.

This is two peg racks full of children's clothes and shoes..some belonged to my children but most are  antique ones that I get at auctions and flea markets.

This basket is at the head of the bathtub and keeps the towels close at hand.
More perfume bottles and bath items are here next to the tub, and the picture below is at the foot of the tub , I light the lamp when we loose power , which happens at least once a year.

The basket on the left holds extra wash clothes and is the very first basket I made 30 years ago.

This is one of the cubbies that Tim made for our up coming sale...I like it here, it may not make it to the sale.

Another cubbie I got at a tag sale for $2.00, just had to have it.

This cubbie sets on the floor and is behind the door, it surprises most people and kids love to move the bars of soap around.

This picture came from the calender that was hanging in my Moms kitchen. When she went home to be with the Lord, my thoughtful sister, Mitty, took the calender and gave me the one that was used for August, the month of my birthday. The Scripture verse on it is Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengthened me.
Just a reminder of how blessed we are to be able to hold on to the things of the past and enjoy the the conveniences of today.
These two pictures are taken from the ends of the room...just to help orient you .. I still have a way to go  to get the prim look that I love but I'm on my way, I think.

Well, that's all for this week...so
