Happy Anniversery!!!

Yep, it's been three years that I have been writing this blog. It has been a lot of fun, and my fear that I might run out of things to talk about, well that just didn't happen.  We are nearing the end of the year and are anticipating a new one. I know that a lot of people like to look back and analyse the year that has past but I don't do a lot of that I don't make new year resolutions either.  I try not to repeat last years mistakes and to keep on trying new things in the next year. I will be praying that I'm able to do just that. Cause the only way I can continue is with the Lords help, and I'm counting on it. God has truly blessed us this year and I'm so thankful to Him.

I've got a few pictures to post and then starting next year I'm going to repeat some of the post that I lost when I got a new computer and accidentally pushed the wrong button. OOPS!!!
Just a few more touches of Christmas....
Mittens are my theme this year, mainly because I couldn't reach my decorations in the garage, so I just went with what I could find.

This little desk is now ready to go to the shop, you won't believe how much gum I had to remove from the under side.
I've been fooling around with making sugar cones...these are made from dark brown sugar and I really like how they turned out. There is an interesting history to the sugar cone and I intend to do a post on that soon.

Sugar cone, pantry jar and cinnamon sticks all in one little cubby.

Close up of an egg in a little nest  in a small canning jar...I removed two of the drawers to make  a space for decorating...I used the drawers in another rook for display.

I added lights to our "Christmas Tree" so we don't look like we are Scrooges...it's been fun.

This is our newest item for the shop, I had this really long bread board and two old bread pans, seemed like a perfect match. Tim did the actual putting together, he's so good at
 that.

 Well, that's all for...

So from my porch to yours...

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL!!!!!!!

Tis the Season...What's the Reason?

Christmas is such a flurry of business, but it is the fun kind of business. Christmas programs at church, plays at school, and caroling with friends. I've enjoyed all these things this year even though I don't have any children in the plays or church programs this year. My children are all grown up and are living in different parts of the state so I have found it to be just as joyful to watch the children who are in my life in my area of the state. You see the reason for all these activities is to celebrate the birth of Christ, and that is joyful weather you're with family or friends.

This Christmas is different in so many ways but mostly in my decorating, I've been busy painting and getting things ready for the shop that my home has sort of been neglected. Well, having said that, here are a few pictures of how Christmas has appeared at our home this year.
This little center piece , candle holder was made to go to the shop...but, I fell in love with it so it stays, I made another one similar to this but it is made from an old chicken feeder and I used small clay pots to hold the candles...I'll show pic of that next time.
This picture and hand & heart garland are on the door leading to our deck ...
and this is the window next to the door looking out on the deck.
This wreath is on the door leading to my craft/work room and those  little mitten frames hold pictures of my six grand kids.

I've added the mittens that were my kids when they were little.

This little mitten holds a sprig of Holly berries and hangs on the side of my china cabinet...the white dish in the background really makes it pop.
Finally, this little angel hangs around the living room, and to be honest, she stays there most of the year...cause I like her there.

That's all for now...

Cleaning, waxing and painting, "OH my!"

I have a pile of old pieces of furniture and they are in dire need of a face lift or maybe just a little touch of color.  We all look better with a touch of color. I have a few Before and After pictures to show you. So here we go....

I know that this picture is fuzzy but I used it anyway...
because this one is so dark. I promise to get better at picture taking.
And here is the finished product. In real life the dark parts are not so dark, really.
Well the sides are, I painted them black....then
because of the little green bird drawer pull I thought I had to add a bit of green to the doors and sides..

It turned out so cute I had a hard time putting it in the shop...but off it went.

Another before, the tea cart, not the chair, yet.
 The finished product...
I really like how this turned out...I used  chalk paint on this piece and finished it with hand rubbed wax
The little door has glass in it and one shelf behind it to hold cups and saucers.
Wanna have a tea party? I have another one to finish and I think it will be RED. Oh yeah, I love red.

Well, that's all for this time...

So , From my porch to yours...

Have a blessed week.

Bits and Pieces...

Well the winter holidays are upon us and it is freezing cold outside. I'm thankful for a warm cozy home. There are certain aromas that are associated with the winter and they conger up memories of Thanksgiving past. When I was a kid I didn't realize how those aromas would linger on in my  memory. I wonder if kids today will remember the sights and sounds and smells of Thanksgiving. I certainly hope so. Have a blessed Thanksgiving tomorrow and enjoy the leftovers on Friday. I love this time of year.

Just a few pictures to share with you.
These little lamps are turning out so cute...I have several to take to the shop this week.
A little girls ice skate in a grape vine wreath is adorable indoors or out.
These drawers are turning out to be lots of fun to do, this one is lined with ads from a 1941 magazine and houses various kitchen items from that era and earlier.

I've been experimenting with making sugar cones...I will be doing a blog on how and why the ladies of yesteryear made these sweet towers.
I love these old lanterns and this one was missing the glass chimney and I was tempted to just throw it away but I saw this on Pinterest and gave it a try. It is one of those battery operated votive candles and it just fits in there. Sweet.
A little primitive gathering that was on it way to the shop and was sold before it got there. Gotta love that.

I was doing some repairs to this quilt and Suzzy decided it was a cozy place for her to take a snooze. She is so cute.

Giving Thanks...

It seems like all the big box stores would rather do away with the holiday of Thanksgiving...I realize that it's not a big money maker for them, but really...It's truly an American holiday and we need to keep celebrating it...no shopping for Christmas gifts.

Having said that here are a few pictures of my Thanksgiving decorations.

Here are a couple of post cards celebrating Thanksgiving...we don't see too many cards made especially for Thanksgiving any more. These are reproductions of some vintage cards but, I've had them so long that they would qualify to be called vintage now.
This is a collection of Thanksgiving candles, I can't bring myself to actually burn them.
This little turkey is not a candle, he is carved and painted and has a sign around his neck saying, "Eat Beef" , I love that.

I love Thanksgiving and all the memories that go along with it. Hope you have a blessed time planing and celebrating Thanksgiving.

That's all for this time...

Rushing the Season...Not...

Really...I'm not one to rush ,  "dare I say ?" snow. But I didn't start it, there is snow on the ground and I can only surmise that is what spurred me on to paint snowmen. So, like it or not, here are some pics of my first snowman of the season.

You see, I found this lonely little chair and it needed to have something done to it....soooooo

 Hummmm! Something is missing...

 Oh! That's better...everybody needs a nose..

 And maybe a scarf...

And a little gussying by way of a burlap bow pine cones.

Ready to go to the shop...

That's all for this time...
